Designing a playful and light weight kids seating inspired by the movement of a bellow, using basic furniture construction techniques.
Sitting as an activity is rarely a static one, especially for youngsters and children. They change posture quite often and constantly move or fidget. In such a case, chairs of rigid framework prove to be a hindrance, a captivating structure, in which kids do not long to sit.
Designed for 'Takshaka' based out of Gurgaon, India, as a part of my final year diploma project at NID, Bellow Chair has been awarded Core 77 award as student notable in the year 2012.

It is a chair with flexible body which can accommodate body movements while sitting besides being a playful character with its form, colour and soft cushiony body. A chair designed to support the body without restricting movement when seated. Inspired by a bellow, with a light-weight cushiony body, flexible from all sides on a wooden base.

Bellow Chair easily producible by any conventional furniture manufacturing company without any extra cost of machinery or material. Sustaining small scale wood work manufacturing units without compromising on new and unconventional design producing capabilities have been addressed through this chair.
Manufactured from wood, ply and foam; bellow chair is very light and stable , suiting children as its users. The body of the chair is made of foam rings stacked on top of each other and held together using adhesive and upholstery. This construction gives it flexibility on all directions without compromising on its function of supporting human body. Also owing to its cushioned body from all sides, it is huggable and renders a feeling of sitting in a big plush toy to kids.
